Our Mission at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is to provide state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer care and alleviate the suffering of patients and their families. We aim to provide care to the patient as a whole by focusing on the physical, emotional, social and economical needs of each individual patient. The KHCC healthcare family treats patients in multi-modality clinics, each comprised of a team of health care specialists who plan patients’ treatments and supervise their care.

On 22nd Feb, 2006, KHCC was recognized by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JACHO) as the first Jordanian hospital to achieve accreditation.  We continued our mission towards excellence that KHCC became the first organization outside the USA and sixth in the world to be certified in oncology by the Joint Commission International in November of 2007.

During the past few years, we have improved the Center’s facilities, diagnostic technology and access to drugs to treat those with cancer. In addition, KHCC has introduced state-of-art technologies such as linear accelerators and CT-Pet scanning equipment. Our patients now have access to a vital humanitarian service previously unattainable not just in Jordan, but throughout the region as a whole.  We have also established palliative and hospice programs to help patients manage their pain throughout the stages of their disease and particularly in its terminal stages.

However, cancer remains the second most frequent cause of death in Jordan after heart disease.  Much more needs to be done to combat this disease. At KHCC, we have started training programs in all disciplines of oncology in anticipation of fostering the development of future leaders of cancer care in the region. Several graduates of these programs are now part of the KHCC medical staff. We have also assembled the necessary medical talent and infrastructure that is quickly placing the Center at the forefront of both treatment and clinical research.  Furthermore, we have forged strong collaborative links with leading international institutions such as the National Cancer Institute (NIH), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Hospital for Sick Children and National Cancer Institute (Cairo) to foster clinical and scientific interaction whilst providing our patients with continuous access to the latest in modern cancer care.

In addition, KHCC persistently works on outreach and education programs in an effort to improve awareness and early diagnosis of cancer in a society in which many are still afraid to utter the word cancer, lest it invoke affliction with the disease.  We seek to banish this ancient and deep-rooted fear with a message of hope. This hope is growing rapidly, via the unremitting research and hard work that transpires daily, even as you read these very words.

Our physicians, nurses and staff work together to provide efficient care in an environment that promotes healing. We hope that when you visit us you’ll see that our hospital is like none other you have been in previously.

Whether you are a patient, a donor, a potential student, a healthcare provider, or a volunteer, I would like to thank you for your support in our battle against cancer. Your cooperation is vital in order to continue our progress and to create a “Center of Excellence” that serves Jordan and the entire region, both for today and tomorrow.
