There are few causes in our world more deserving and more urgent than the fight against cancer. Cancer does not discriminate: it affects adults and children, men and women, rich and poor alike. Sadly, every single one of us has been touched by cancer one way or another. We all have a family member or know a friend or colleague who has suffered from this painful disease - vibrant individuals who are deeply loved and still have so much to offer. I am personally one of the experienced first hand the terrible burden of cancer as I fought alongside my husband in his struggle against non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Talal won his courageous battle against cancer by the grace of God and access to the best treatments available.

The King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) is a unique institution in the Middle East. It is the only comprehensive cancer center in the region that treats both adults and pediatric patients and is a non-governmental, not-for-profit institution. It currently treats more than 3500 new patients each year from all over the Middle East. The success of the center was a dream of our late King Hussein who broke all taboos by openly speaking about his cancer and combating it with courage and determination. He fought his disease in the same manner as he lived his life – with great faith, courage and dignity.

Major strides have taken place at the KHCC since 2002 in order to elevate its standard and make it a Center of Excellence. Towards that goal, the Center signed a cooperative agreement with the National Cancer Institute of the United States (NCI) in September 2002. We are also privileged that our Pediatrics Unit has been closely linked with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennesse since 1997.

One of our first priorities was to assemble a highly qualified team of senior oncologists who have joined us from Harvard, Duke and other notable institutions. The wealth of knowledge and accumulated talents now housed within the KHCC enable the center to provide highly specialized unique programs in cancer care.

This impressive medical team is now led by a newly appointed Director General, Dr. Mahmoud Sarhan. A highly respected oncologist, Dr. Sarhan was a Full Professor at Duke University Medical Center prior to his appointment in Jordan.

Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania have been our tireless supporters in the process of rebuilding the KHCC into a regional Center of Excellence. Our dream is for every brave patient at the KHCC to have a chance to live a happy and fulfilling life. This dream can only succeed with your help and our dedication. The patients will only have a chance to live with your support.

Cancer does not have to mean the end. With your support, it can be the beginning of a healthy, productive and happy life.
