Fellowship Program
Fellows at KHCC are in close contact with consultants and are engaged in intellectual discourse about a variety of teaching and research topics; they are taught how to manage challenges such as pursuing interdisciplinary work and working effectively with residents and undergraduate students. They are also exposed to issues concerning their departments and the center in general, including the international accreditation process.
One to two fellows are admitted yearly to this three years Medical Oncology fellowship program. It provides comprehensive clinical training in the diagnosis and management of malignancies and in research. The fellowship training is organized to provide experience in the multidisciplinary care of patients, supplemented by an intensive program of didactic lectures, interdisciplinary tumor boards, and seminars.
The Fellowship program was established since 2007 and consists of three years of continuous education and training following completion of a general surgery residency and obtaining Jordanian Medical Council (JMC) certificate in General Surgery. Training includes rotations in surgical and non-surgical oncology services, plus clinical or laboratory research under the directions of a mentor from the faculty. The fellowship also provides exposure to the multidisciplinary management of cancer.Objective:To provide a Surgical Oncologist who is well- qualified general surgeon who has obtained training and experience in the multidisciplinary approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients, and devotes a major of his or her professional practice to these activities along with cancer research.Duration:Total of three years as follows;• Thirty months surgical oncology• Two months medical oncology• One month radiation oncology• One month surgical pathology
Fellowship Program has gained the European Society of Surgical Oncology approval, to give our qualified fellows more opportunities for certifications.The fellows participate in clinical and academic activities as follows:1- They supervise and run the day to day clinical care of in patients with the resident doctors from time of admission till time of discharge. 2- They also act as first assistants in surgical procedures 3- They are trained by the consultants to do minor and major surgical procedures. The extent of work they are given depends on their level of raining. 4- twice a week academic activity in which the fellow present a topic review, Journal club, case presentations, research meetings, morbidity and mortality.5- Attend the twice weekly activities of the surgical residents6- Attend the weekly grand Round of the center7- They run the pre-operative clinic with the anesthesia8- They help to run the outpatient clinics with their consultants9- They cover the night duties once every 5-6 days
Believing in its mission and stressing on its leading role in the region, KHCC created the first and only pediatric Hematology/Oncology program in Jordan. This exclusive program welcomes young pediatricians from Jordan and the entire Arab countries. By offering a well-rounded curriculum, for three years, the program prepares fellows to be sub-specialists who are well prepared for careers in academic medicine or clinical practice. Participants have the chance to spend part of their fellowship training at leading institutions in the USA and abroad.
