The King Hussein Cancer Foundation
The Goodwill Fund
The Goodwill Fund provides financial support to underprivileged patients who do not have medical insurance and are unable to pay for their lengthy cancer treatment. Financial assistance includes the following:
Treatment Costs The average cost for cancer treatment of one patient without complications is estimated at approximately JD 25,000 (US$ 35,318) and the estimated cost of a bone marrow transplant is JD 100,000 (US$ 141,270). The Goodwill Fund is used to help many patients at various stages of their cancer treatments. It helps in the partial, most urgent needs of treatment, depending upon availability of funds.
Transport Costs for patients who live outside Amman and for those patients within Amman who cannot afford transportation to KHCC for necessary medical appointments.
Hotel Accommodation for patients living outside Amman and needing to stay close to the hospital, particularly after complicated procedures, such as bone marrow transplants.
Food Coupons offering outpatients a nutritious meal at the KHCC cafeteria.
The unfortunate events of the past 15 years in Iraq have left Iraqis facing a severe deterioration of healthcare services. There are currently approximately one million Iraqis in Jordan, and the number is continually increasing.
In 2006, the number of underprivileged Iraqi patients receiving treatment at KHCC was nearly the same as the number of Jordanian patients, exerting a heavy toll on funds donated for Jordanian patients through the Goodwill Fund.
Recognizing that cancer knows no borders and is not confined to nationality or race, KHCF extended as much assistance as possible to Iraqis. The Iraqi Goodwill Fund provides much-needed financial support to Iraqi cancer patients, regardless of their age or gender, who are not covered by medical insurance and are unable to pay for lengthy cancer treatment.
There are so many Iraqi patients desperate for care…approximately 25 new Iraqis enter KHCC every month seeking treatment. Many of these individuals cannot afford to pay the high costs associated with their necessary cancer treatment. We, at KHCF, have seen the enormous and urgent need to help the steadily growing number of Iraqis seeking treatment at KHCC.
The Iraqi Goodwill Fund engages individuals in Jordan and abroad in fighting cancer, helping to save lives of Iraqis suffering from this disease. This Fund has been, and continues to be, the only lifeline for many Iraqi cancer patients seeking help in their battle with cancer.
