HRH Princess Ghida Talal's Bio

 
 

After graduating from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Princess Ghida pursued a career in journalism in London. In 1991, she married Prince Talal of Jordan. Soon after, the late King Hussein asked her to establish the International Press Office of the Royal Hashemite Court and to become his Press Secretary.

In October 2001, King Abdullah II appointed her as the Chairperson of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. As the wife of a cancer survivor and knowing first hand the heavy toll that cancer takes on the patient and his family, Princess Ghida decided to devote herself to the fight against cancer and is a tireless fund-raiser and advocate for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and the King Hussein Cancer Center – the Foundation’s medical arm.

Princess Ghida (born Ghida Salaam to a political family in Lebanon) has been serving on the Board of Regents of her alma mater, Georgetown University, since October 2003 and is currently on her second term.

 Princess Ghida joined the Board of the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund in 2007 and has played a role in launching the Iraq Scholar Rescue Project, an IIE initiative which aims to rescue persecuted scholars from Iraq.

 She is also an honorary member of the Mediterranean Task Force for Cancer Control (MTCC) and the Honorary Chairperson of the Jordan Society of Pediatric Oncology. In Jordan, Princess Ghida is on the board of the National Gallery of Fine Arts as well as Honorary Chairperson of the the Jordanian Swimming Federation.

 She lives in Jordan and is a mother to three children: Prince Hussein (born 1999) and twins Princess Rajaa and Prince Muhammad (born 2001).
