International Accreditation

CAPHCAC merged.JPGIn February of 2006, KHCC achieved a major accomplishment, becoming the first hospital in the kingdom to be awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. In 2009 KHCC underwent another onsite survey for which it was Re-accredited ensuring that the international standards are adequately adhered to and maintained through to 2012.

KHCC made history again in December of 2007, when it became the first hospital outside the United States to have Disease or Condition-Specific Care (DCSC) Accreditation for its Oncology Program.  These achievements were made possible by the commitment of the staff to deliver the highest levels of care, by the vision and hard work of the administration and the Quality Management Office (QMO).

To follow through with the pursuit of excellence, KHCC received two more local and international accreditations in 2009.  The KHCC department of pathology and Laboratory medicine was accredited by The College of American Pathologists (CAP) in July 2009 focusing on the  quality of pathology and laboratory services.
In order to ensure that KHCC also meets and respects local standards,
it sought accreditation from the Health Care Accreditation Council of Jordan (HCAC) and was accredited in July 2009.

What are the benefits of accreditation?

Accreditation provides a visible commitment by an organization to improve the quality of patient care, to ensure a safe environment and to continually work to reduce any potential risks to patients and staff. Accreditation has gained worldwide attention as an effective quality evaluation and management tool.

Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCI)

In response to growing interest in accreditation and quality improvement worldwide, the Joint Commission launched its international accreditation program in 1999. Joint Commission International accreditation standards are based on international consensus standards and set uniform, achievable expectations for structures, processes and outcomes for hospitals. Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation can help international health care organizations, public health agencies, health ministries and others to evaluate, improve and demonstrate the quality of patient care in their nations.

Disease Specific Care Accreditation (DSC or DCSC)

JCI Disease or Condition-Specific Care (DCSC) certification is designed to evaluate disease management and/ or chronic care services and programs. These programs are provided by health plans, disease management service companies, hospitals and other care delivery settings. The evaluation and resulting certification decision is based on an assessment of the following:

  •  Compliance with consensus based national standards
  • Effective use of established clinical practice guidelines
  • Manage and optimize an organized approach for performance measurement and improvement activities

College of American Pathologists (CAP)

The goal of the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is to improve patient safety by advancing the quality of pathology and laboratory services through education, standard setting, and ensuring laboratories meet or exceed regulatory requirements. Upon successful completion of the inspection process, the laboratory is awarded CAP accreditation and becomes part of an exclusive group of more than 6,000 laboratories worldwide that have met the highest standards of excellence.

Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) - Jordan

The HCAC is an independent non-profit health care accreditation organization, that was established in response to the need to raise the level of health care quality and patient safety and in line with the global trend that considers accreditation as the objective means of assessment of health care quality and accountability for services and facilities.

The HCAC was created as part of the National Health Strategy (2006-2010) as both a national resource and also with the potential to provide services beyond Jordan.

Quality Management Office (QMO)

In maintaining consistency with the KHCC mission, the Quality Management Office (QMO) is committed to fostering a culture of quality by adopting and maintaining the highest quality standards. We strongly believe in staff involvement, at all levels, in center wide continuous quality improvement activities to provide excellence in the quality of care.

Key Strategies

1. Develop a culture of safety and quality according to international standards.
2. Support evidence-based disease management using metric data.
3. Prepare for and maintain Disease Specific Certification "DSC" standards.
