Pediatric Oncology Services

The pediatric department is responsible for the treatment of children affected with cancer.  New patients may walk in the clinic or be referred from other hospitals.  The staff is accustomed to the unique needs of children with cancer.  Supportive services, including pain management and nutrition play a major role in delivering the best care.  Our staff holds regular meetings to discuss patients with different specialists, including surgeons, radiologists and radiation oncologists.  We have strong ties with international institutions.  Our team meets regularly with oncologists in St. Jude hospital to discuss difficult cases.  A play therapist and a psychologist work closely with our department to ensure the delivery of the best quality of life to our patients during treatment and after finishing their therapy.

¡   Department Chairperson’s Message:

The department of Pediatrics at King Hussein Cancer Center is being developed to offer a comprehensive program of services to children and adolescents with cancer and non-malignant blood diseases. The department of pediatrics continues to pursue excellence in all its endeavors and programs. Excellence and distinction are characteristics of our aim to provide comprehensive cancer care to children so that no child is denied of the chance to be cured of cancer and to lead a normal productive life.

To ensure this, the department will continue to adapt new, cutting edge therapies and technologies in its fight against cancer; patients will be cared for in modern inpatient and outpatient facilities. The department is well equipped to handle seriously ill patients who require intensive care management.

Providing ongoing medical education opportunities for residents, fellows, and faculty has always been a priority of our department. Our entire faculty participates in many CME lectures and courses.

Many of our faculty members share their expertise in pediatric hematology/oncology and pediatric intensive care medicine by giving lectures, presenting in grand rounds, as well as participating training courses and workshops.

The department will be actively engaged in projects and medical activities that enhance its, and the Center’s, image and prominence on the regional and international levels. Such activities, like the formation of cooperative groups, memberships and contributions to clinical studies will continue to help the department grow. Our expansion goals extend to developing programs, symposia/workshop organization, defining a presence in local, regional and international meetings, as well as developing the visiting professorship and grand round lecture programs.
