In addition to providing the highest quality patient care, King Hussein Cancer Center is a leader in Jordan and the Middle East in providing training, education, research and other services to physicians, nurses, other healthcare practitioners and administrative personnel. Our professional services range from curriculum development to conferences, interactive videoconferences, online training, and a variety of certifications.

KHCC has begun professional education and training programs which are the first of their kind in the country, including training in clinical pharmacy, oncologic nursing and medical and surgical oncology fellowships for physicians. These programs prepare future generations of specialized healthcare providers and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to deal with the complex issues involved in oncologic patient care in the twenty-first century. In addition, KHCC has made a huge effort to ensure that all staff members have access to the latest educational resources by organizing and supporting attendance at lectures, conferences, and workshops both locally and abroad. The new KHCC medical library and many cutting-edge electronic resources are tremendous assets to the promotion of health education.

Office of Training & Education (GME)
In addition to providing the highest quality patient care, KHCC strives to be a leader in providing training and educational opportunities to physicians at the Center, in Jordan and in the Middle East. The Office of Training and Education at KHCC provides services to strengthen the knowledge and clinical practical expertise of physicians through residency and fellowship programs for physicians in training, and continuing education programs for physicians already in practice. The office provides resources to enhance teaching and evaluation skills, assist with curriculum development, and foster educational and research development. The office has two distinct units which are the Graduate Medical Education (GME) and the Continuing Medical Education (CME) units that fulfill the different functions for physician education and training. The mission of this office is to enhance teaching and evaluation skills, assist with curriculum development, foster educational research and development, strengthen the knowledge and clinical practice expertise of physicians and other health professionals, and enhance the reputation of KHCC in the field of Medical Education.

KHCC Residency Programs
Our residency programs have become one of the most highly competitive programs in the region. We are gaining an outstanding reputation for offering solid education and experience to our residents. The programs are overseen by the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Unit. Residency programs at KHCC begin with an Orientation Day for new interns. This welcoming event is an important opportunity to help residents adjust to their new positions at the center and to inform them about all educational resources available at KHCC. Residents at KHCC are divided into two groups: transitional residents and categorical residents. Although in the first year all residents receive similar education; different future plans for the two groups draw different paths in following years.

Transitional residents are an outstanding group of residents that join KHCC with the intent to do their residency in the United States. By spending a year or two at KHCC, these residents expand their experiences and raise their chances of getting admitted to top US medical schools due to the excellent reputation of the center. We believe that upon their return to the country with the state of art knowledge they obtained abroad, these doctors will raise Jordan's share in possessing top healthcare providers in the region. KHCC plays an important role in this reverse brain drain process, as many of these residents aim at coming back and being part of the big KHCC family.

KHCC Fellowship Programs
Fellows at KHCC are in close contact with consultants and are engaged in intellectual discourse about a variety of teaching and research topics; they are taught how to manage challenges such as pursuing interdisciplinary work and working effectively with residents and undergraduate students. They are also exposed to issues concerning their departments and the center in general, including the international accreditation process.

• Medical Oncology Program
One to two fellows are admitted yearly to this three years Medical Oncology fellowship program. It provides comprehensive clinical training in the diagnosis and management of malignancies and in research. The fellowship training is organized to provide experience in the multidisciplinary care of patients, supplemented by an intensive program of didactic lectures, interdisciplinary tumor boards, and seminars.

• Surgical Oncology Program
The KHCC Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program consists of a minimum of two years of continuous education and training following completion of a general surgery residency and obtaining Jordanian Medical Council (JMC) certificate in General Surgery. Training includes rotations on surgical and non-surgical oncology services, plus clinical or laboratory research under the directions of a mentor from the faculty. The fellowship also provides exposure to the multidisciplinary management of cancer.

• Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program
Believing in its mission and stressing on its leading role in the region, KHCC created the first and only pediatric Hematology/Oncology program in Jordan. This exclusive program welcomes young pediatricians from Jordan and the entire Arab countries. By offering a well-rounded curriculum, for three years, the program prepares fellows to be sub-specialists who are well prepared for careers in academic medicine or clinical practice. Participants have the chance to spend part of their fellowship training at leading institutions in the USA and abroad.

Providing Our Staff with the Latest Technology & Resources
Advances in patient care and medical research occur rapidly. It is essential that our healthcare providers stay up to date to offer the best care to our patients. Furthermore, all employees of the Center must be well informed in order to offer the best care environment for the patients. KHCC offers its entire staff a variety of educational resources.

Telesynergy Service
In addition to conventional videoconferencing capabilities, KHCC is one of few institutions in the world that offers TELESYNERGY ser vice. This is a state of the art fully automated Global Medical Consultation Workstation that allows physicians to gain consultations, advice and information from experts around the world to deliver the best care to their patients. The system is capable of real time review of radiology images, pathology slides and any other patient data by experts around the world.

VPN Access
This allows selected staff to log on to the NIH library and link-up to all of the available resources including a library of full text journals, books, and databases in addition to up-to-date information for patient care and medical research. Access to the NIH library and resources in this capacity is unprecedented in this region, and has been made available through the partnership of KHCC with the National Institute of Health in the US.
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
KHCC strives to meet the educational needs of physicians and allied health personnel affected by rapidly evolving technologies and a changing health care environment. The CME Unit oversees and produces the KHCC’s CME activities for physicians and other health care professionals in our center and nationally.
CME activities are jointly developed with the clinical departments of the center. The Unit participates on KHCC’s Credit Designation Committee, which overseas:

• CME credit approval for KHCC activities (e.g., grand rounds, tumor boards and conferences of the clinical departments); and

• The preparation of CME attendance reports for KHCC personnel (clinical faculty, residents, fellows, medical students and other health care personnel).
