Facts about the Medical Library

The KHCC Medical Library was established in 2003 and is the only academic health sciences library in Jordan. It is the primary information resource for faculty, students and staff at the center. The library also services the School of Health as well as patients and their families. It is staffed by a small team of professionals enthusiastic about books and learning. The head librarian is always ready and willing to help staff as well as patients in their search for health information. Whether the inquiries are very general or advanced in nature, the library has the resources to get you on your way.

Resources (Computers and Equipment)

A computer lab with Internet access and Microsoft Office programs is available to patrons of the library. Accommodating 12 workstations, the lab is sectioned off to include 5 machines that are available via VPN user accesses, while the remaining 7 are completely accessible to the public. Additional services include photocopiers (available to staff), a color scanner and printers. Patrons are welcome to use these computers and the resources they provide, to research information, search the web, use the word processor, or browse the numerous databases available to them.

Electronic Information Resources

The library offers its patrons access to some of the most exclusive databases available. Through institutional subscription to some of the largest online libraries and publishers, our library proudly offers patrons access to these valuable databases and search engines free of charge. That which is not readily available in the center or region, can easily be acquired through our affiliates.

In Addition, the library houses a collection of CDs and Videos (click to access) on various medical topics. These resources can be most beneficial to our training staff and students, but may also be used by the general public.

Print Resources

The library is home to a wealth of medical books, journals and references consisting of over 200,328 volumes. Patients and their families are encouraged to come in to read about a particular disease and its treatments from a variety of materials in Arabic or in English. This bi-lingual library is rich with materials on cancer and other diseases that help patients stay informed, empowering them on the prospects of their disease. Patients are also welcome to simply visit the library for a bit of relaxation as they browse the shelves to curl up with a book on more general topics.

Library Classes

The library staff recognizes the importance of proper use of library resources and therefore, seeks to ensure that patrons are knowledgeable and well informed about what the library has to offer.  Hence, the Library offers a number of classes to help facilitate library use to both KHCC staff and the public. These classes introduce and familiarize users with the various search engines and resources available to them. They are offered in a friendly environment with flexible hours throughout the day, so that staff can coordinate their schedules to make time to attend. Emails are sent out in advance to inform KHCC staff of upcoming events and registration information. Classes are given on the following:

  • PubMed.

  • Up -To-Date.

  • Finding and Using Electronic Resources (Using Internet and Medical Library electronic resources effectively and efficiently).
