Inpatient & Outpatient Services

Inpatient & Outpatient Services
What is the difference between inpatient and outpatient services?
  • Inpatients:
    • Inpatients are patients who require admission into a hospital for at least one night.
    •  If surgery or any other type of procedure that requires constant care and around-the- clock observation is needed, cancer patients will be admitted to KHCC and become inpatients until they are cleared for discharge.
  • Outpatients:
    • An outpatient comes to the hospital for a consultation, procedure or treatment and leaves the same day.
    • Outpatient care is any type of service offered by the hospital that does not require an overnight stay.
    • Treatment procedures such as chemotherapy and some forms of radiotherapy can be carried out on an outpatient basis.
    • Cancer patients will most likely be outpatients for the majority of their treatment as most types of treatment do not require hospitalization.
